Tracy Berna Writer

I'm Tracy, and I’ve been a writer my entire life—family legend has it that I came out of my mother's womb wielding a pencil. (My mother still complains that it was sharpened.) I’ve written stories, essays, years worth of stand-up comedy material, sketches, ad copy, artist bios, blog posts, and I spent more than a decade professionally writing scripts for animated TV cartoons. (When people asked what I did for a living, I told them I hit ducks with anvils.) A few years ago when I was designing and building websites, I also helped my clients identify and compose exactly what should go on their site.

All my life I’ve been the person who puts things into words for other people. Someone will be flailing to define something important to them, racking their brain for the precise words to capture what they mean, and I’ll suggest a possible way to say it. Suddenly the person’s eyes will light up. “Yes! That’s it!” they’ll say, their face transforming with relief. Frankly, it’s that relief that always makes me feel like being able to do that for people is both an honor and a privilege.

I believe my job is to make you look good. Maybe you know what you mean but not how to say it. Maybe you’re having trouble deciding what needs to be said in the first place. Maybe you already have some copy that just doesn’t sing the way you need it to. Or perhaps you need a comprehensive message for an entire website or other campaign. Wherever you are, I get to know you, your situation and your goals. I’ll get to know the personality you need to present and the audience you’re trying to reach. I’ll figure out what nice, specific information I need you to provide me and then take it from there. You give me the bones and I’ll flesh it out, and the end result is simply your message, presented in just the right manner.
